please, allow me to introduce myself...

...my name is nick (aka: the stereotype) and i have recently been given the honor of being a contributor to 'truth and spectacle.' my good friend joel (the original drunken rogue), with whom i run a political blog, apathy as activism, has requested that i give you a review of little miss sunshine. so, here it goes:

first let me say this is a special kind of comedy, rarely achieved in cinema. its characters are comical, goofy, disturbed, and (above all) complicated but are able to maintain a realism and openess allowing the moviegoer to relate and become emersed in their individual and corporate stuggles and triumphs. this is accomplised in no small part by a ridiculously talented cast: steve carell's suicidal/brilliant/cynical/empathic/homosexual professor shows that the 40-year-old-virgin is not just another comedian-turned-actor...the man can act; dwayne (paul dano) is a nietzsche-loving troubled adolescent, who makes you feel for him even though he is mute for the majority of the film; alan arkin is, well, alan arkin, which is good; this movie is greg kinnear's best work since as good as it gets (albeit it had little competition); toni collette has the fatigued and frustrated wife thing down; and finally...abigail breslin is absolutely adorable, wearing a "chubby-suit," she makes the movie...if you don't love her by the end of the film, you are have no soul...no, sorry, you don't.

the film manages to be adult and mature without falling into vulgarity, it keeps an aire of absurdity without losing believeability, and is heart-warming without being sappy. you will leave the theatre with a smile on your face, which is always the best way to leave.

this is one of the best movies to come out this year. if it is still playing in your area, go see it today. if it isn't, drive to an area where it is playing and watch it there.

i'm not sure how the other guys on 't and s' rate movies (star, thumbs, smiley faces, racks of lamb, etc.) so i'll just say that it gets 4 out of 5 racks of lamb from this critic.

until next time...later.

Kudos Sir. Great post nice review. Good movie too. Breslin steals the show but I like Dano and the rest very much.

It took me a little time to get into this filck but once I was in I was captivated.
